Hi Denise,I am going to try and make the last Mass.I went to St Malachy's grammar school 1st through 8th grade. Was Baptized there, made my first Penance there, received my 1st Holy Communion there, made my Confirmation there, and graduated from the church in June of 1969.We left ENY in I think 1976 when it just got to dagerous to even walk to church. I went to the 150 celebration of the parish and I also went to the grammar school reunion out on LI.If the weather permits I am going to try and make the Last Mass.I now live in NJ and share the car so if I can get the car and the weather is good I will be there.I hope to see others there also.

Hi Cathy,

I am also going to try to make on Sunday...it is just so sad that this will be our last opportunity.  How do you think the parking is around there?  I am a little concerned, ha, ha, ha.  Hope to see you on Sunday.  Maureen

Well it's done.St Malachy's as we knew it is no longer.I was at the last mass yesterday Jan 25,2009. It was a bitter-sweet day. I brought my daughter with me because she had never seen St Malachy's in person before. The church was standing room only and that was very tight! The choir sounded beautiful. At the end of the mass they carried the statue of St.Malachy, The Cross and the baptism record book out of the church to bring over to St Michaels. I lost it when the book passed me.My name was put in that book 54 years ago this coming Feb.May St Malachy live in our hearts forever.

The End ! of a glorious Era-- The fair well to St. Malachy was both Happy & Sad, Happy for all the years & times that were spent there - Sad to see ,the statue of ST. Malachy being carried from the Church--It almost looked as if the face of the Statue took on a sad expression.  The present Congregation performed a very Solemn and Grand exit from the Church for St. Malachy.--As I looked around there were many tears. Some very close friend of mine were present , and I was very honored to be with them on this very special day.

Mike,
It was a pleasure meeting you for the very first time. Thank you for sharing your stories of both the school and our precious church. It was a beautiful mass and I was sorry that I could not follow you guys to the progression. I will be sending those pictures real soon.
God Bless

I agree Mike it was both happy and sad. I was born here and still remain and have been going to St. Malachy's for 50 years. It was like loosing a close friend.
I too saw a few dear friends but saddly I had to stay up front with the choir and then with the procession and was unable to spend some time with them. Maybe in the future one day soon.

Hi Cathy,  I can not believe you were there.  I did not see you.  I was looking for familiar faces but did not see any.  Hey, if you get a response from Susan, let me know, I would be happy to help you set up another reunion.
