Many tears , laughs , good times , bad times, were had by all of us. Baptism, Communion, Confirmation, Marriage, Life time friendships all from this little parish. Lets give this school and our St. Malchy's a wonderful send off, by all of us attending the last Mass. Anyone with any info pertaining  to the closing please post it.

If ever you've loved anything, you know what's important. We all have different backgrounds, but a common thread, which is our St. Malachy's experience, the friends, teachers and parents whom we've met along the way there.

It is the greatest act of love for all of us who can, to be at the last mass.

Let's fill the church. Thanks to anyone who can give us the info as to when the last mass might be. Maybe we should bring those clickers...when to kneel, when to stand, when to take a breath and make your first confession with Fr. Doheny, Fr. Kleinklaus, or the toughest of them all, Fr. Shork.

Let's all put our lives on hold for one day and turn out for St. Malachy's, and for our childhoods, all those years ago.

God bless,

Peter Hamilton

Peter,
I will definitely post here when the last mass will be held at St. Malachy's church. My grandmother, who now lives in Ozone Park, Queens, still takes the bus every Sunday to go to her beloved church. She's very upset that it will close it's doors next year. I am a little bit younger than you, having moved into the neighborhood, Hendrix Street, in the late '60's, but the very first thing that both my mother and grandmother loved about it was the fact that there was a small, beautiful old church just around the block! I did my communion there as well as my confirmation and my Sunday mornings were spent getting up early, putting on my Sundays' best and going to church. Time and age play cruel things on people for they make them forget things, events and places as the years go by. Little by little they rob us of our memories and it isn't fair. I hope that we can get alot of people, both friends and schoolmates, to come to this last mass and show our love for that little church from East New York!

Mario: I hear you loud and clear. Your grandmother is someone really special to keep going to St. Malachy's. My mom got married in that church. I have a picture of her holding one of us three kids up right after our baptism. My mom camped out on the steps of 75th precinct until we got Mrs. Guilfoyle as a crossing guard at Fulton. I have a Daily News clip of it at home somewhere, about ready to burst into flames from all the years.

I remember the Sundays and the churchful of us schoolkids, about our later getting the Jewish rolls and bagels on the way back from Sunday Mass. (five cents and three cents each?!). I remember the communions, the confirmations, the first confession with Fr. Doheny, the old school (yes, the old school), Miss Quinn's flunking me in art.  But the church, the May crownings, remember those letters they had us write, about what we prayed for, to send them up to Mary in smoke when they burned them? Going home from mass in the snow in winter...So much of our buried memories are locked up within our minds and within the imagination of that church, which will always remain more than just a building or a house of worship. Yeah, I'll be there. Thanks, Mario, for telling us when.

To everyone who is lurking or peeking in at this board , lets make it known that you are here , and lets see if we can spread the word that our [Little GIANT Church ] is finally closing it's doors. Think of the hundreds of times you went in and out of it's doors and the many Christmas Eve Masses that you attended,The Easter Sundays that you were present and the many Benedictions you all went to and how about all the First Friday Ceremonies you were at. The many times that you visited alone, the many Mothers Days you were there wearing your white or pink carnations, The Weddings we all went to the Funerals we attended. So lets all say Good Bye by paying our respects to Grand Old St. Malachy's & The grounds of that Little Red School House. So Susan, Joan, Ellene, Josephine, Barbara, Sissy, Charley, Dom, & Anthony and all that are peeking, Say hello and lets make this one GRAND FINALLY to the Church that we all loved.

I am so sorry to hear about the closing, I have many fond memories of St. Malachy's.  I went to the old school, new school, married and had my first child baptized there.  I grew up at 199 Hendrix and loved the area.  My best friend and now sister-in-law lived at 202 Hendrix.  We have 7 children and 6 grandchildren between  us and still are very close, living 15 minutes apart here in NJ.  Life was good in ENY.  Please keep us updated on the last Mass.
